Metal as an answer to existential questions 🍋
Ecstatic, overwhelming and immersive – this is the music of the American quartet Agriculture, who will perform for the first time on September 14 in Dejvice’s Klubovna. The black metal quartet subversively plays with elements of this subgenre and uses them to express a wide range of emotions and the search for the meaning of human existence on this year’s eponymous record and first full-length album. Interspersed between passages of light-hearted plucking, crescendoing guitar harmonies, celebratory and deafening vocals, thoughtful improvisations and meditative atmospheric passages is the record’s mission to experience the wonders and joys of the metaphysical and physical world.

Agriculture began with a meeting and subsequent series of jam sessions between Kern Haug and Daniel Meyer, two musicians from the Los Angeles underground noise scene. Initial experiments turned into a desire to portray together the uplifting experience of being through metal music. After veteran guitarist Richard Chowenhill and bassist and vocalist Leah Levinson joined the band’s lineup, this idea crystallized into the black metal skeleton of Agriculture’s music, which was first heard on the band’s debut EP, The Circle Chant, released in 2022. As a result, the concepts and themes that the band had already explored evolved into powerful artistic and philosophical statements on Agriculture. Existential and hard-to-grasp questions are handled by the band with an urgency that makes their music both an artistic statement and a transcendental experience.
