On the first track of Return, Emma Ruth Rundle’s latest album Engine of Hell, she opens the way to experience the innermost emotions and to reconciliation. The American singer-songwriter and visual artist will return to Kasárne Karlín on 28 August 2024 with a solo, but not acoustic, show.

Folk, ambient and sludge metal elements have been with the Californian musician’s work since her first recordings over a decade ago. Over the course of her career, she’s made albums full of dreamy abstractions, as on her debut Electric Guitar: One, maximalist sonic textures in the eventual Nocturnes or collaborations with Chelsea Wolfe, and classic singer-songwriter records (Some Heavy Ocean).
On her latest recording, Engine of Hell, Emma Ruth Rundle returns to the neglected instrument of her childhood, the piano. Accompanied by its tones, she comes to terms with old and new traumas, and while she offers no clear-cut solutions, her music is full of understanding.
