Architecture, the urban environment and, above all, Beirut’s hotels as the main protagonists of the beginning of the Lebanese civil war and of the music – this is how singer-songwriter and researcher Mayssa Jallad conceived her debut album Marjaa: The Battle of the Hotels.
On the eve of her Prague concert at the Olympik Hotel, Lebanese musician and urban explorer Mayssa Jallad will meet architect Lynda Zein at the Jaroslav Fragner Gallery. Together they will discuss architecture, their relationship to the city and its transformations.

๐ ๐ฎ๐๐๐ฎ ๐๐ฎ๐น๐น๐ฎ๐ฑ is a bilingual singer, composer, and researcher in the field of architecture. Her work deals with both very personal and political themes, as seen in her first solo album Marjaa: The Battle of the Hotels. The album explores the history of urban battles that occurred before her birth during the Lebanese Civil War, through a shared musical and architectural lens. Mayssa Jallad currently lives in Beirut.

Architect ๐๐๐ป๐ฑ๐ฎ ๐ญ๐ฒ๐ถ๐ป studied urban planning in Paris. She has long been working on the themes of gentrification, destruction and urban segregation. She currently teaches at UMPRUM and at AVU she researches acceleration processes in architecture in a post-socialist context. Together with her colleague Eliลกka Mรกlkovรก, she led the research and the exhibition of the same name Pro/Change Karlรญn for ViPer gallery. Together, they also curated the art festival Waiting for Transformation in Prague’s metro stations and the Libuลก and Pรญsnice housing estates for the GHMP.
