Where else to hold a concert of fragile guitars than in a botanical garden? On 20 June, the Botanical Garden of the SOŠ Jarov in the former park of Jirásek’s Villa in Malešice will host the premiere performance of the award-winning American quartet Florist, who will present last year’s eponymous album.
Florist is characterised by fragile intimacy, delicate lyricism and tender guitars. The Brooklyn-based band, fronted by Emily Sprague, has released their fourth full-length album after a decade on the scene, capturing fleeting moments, moments of intimacy and melancholic memories. The foursome recorded the album together in a rented house in the Hudson Valley, and the resulting sound reflects spontaneous ideas and themes developed together.
The friendship behind Florist has been cultivated by the American band since their first EP We Have Been This Way Forever. The album Emily Alone, which was released in 2019 alongside a short atmospheric film, was named Best New Music by Pitchfork magazine. And it didn’t spare any praise for last year’s album either: ‘You can gradually discover all the components of the album: the band members meeting, the creation of the songs and the woods themselves. […] Florist is a document of what matters most and what goes on into the night.”
