John Francis Flynn will perform in Prague’s Klub Varšava on 29 November at 19:30.
John Francis Flynn is an Irish singer and multi-instrumentalist, whose work straddles the line between traditional and contemporary folk music. He is a founding member of the traditional Irish folk group Skippers’ Alley. His solo work combines traditional material with influences from the world of post-punk, electronic, improvisation and contemporary music.
He released his solo debut I Would Not Live Always in 2021, followed by his second album Look Over The Water, See The Sky. On his second record, he takes inspiration from old stories and folklore. Here he elaborates dark and surreal fantasies into eight tracks that deconstruct traditional songs in different ways. At one point Flynn slows the tempo, at another he adds breaths or combines acoustic sound with synthetic electronics. On the Irish musician’s second recording, experimental folk becomes a vehicle for exploring emotions and meditating on the meaning of his own cultural heritage.
